Use the links below to see the “Instructions to Authors” that all journals have. Note particular requirements concerning spelling (European/American) and word count limits. Pay special attention to instructions about how to format references, tables and figures.
Most journals use the Vancouver style for reference lists. This style, established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, lists references by number in order of citation. A small number of journals (in dentistry, notably J Dent Res and Caries Res) use variants of name and date reference lists. Always study a recent issue of the joournal in which you hope to publish, to identify the style and minor variations the journal may favour.
